“EnLight” Project Receives 2014 ENIAC JU Innovation Award

The EnLight project exploits the full potential of LED lighting through breakthrough innovations in integrated lighting solutions beyond retrofit applications. This includes intelligent lighting systems. The aim is to reduce energy consumption by up to 40% compared with today’s LED systems.

ECSEL Joint Undertaking, supporting projects of the ENIAC JU, announced the Enlight project as the winner of the 2014 Innovation Award at the European Nanoelectronics Forum. EnLight– Energy Efficient and Intelligent Lighting Systems – developed innovative solutions to exploit the full potential of Solid State LED Lighting for energy efficient and intelligent lighting systems, yielding energy savings that go far beyond what is possible by simple retrofit lighting applications.

The future of both domestic and professional lighting lies in leveraging the intrinsic benefits of LED technology. This will lead to new lighting solutions which are not possible with conventional lighting technology. By building on Europe’s leadership in semiconductor and lighting technology, EnLight helps to shape the lighting market in the years ahead.

The results of the Enlight project will be exclusively published in the LED professional Review Issue 48 (March/April 2015) as a series of six articles highlighting the technology details and key outcomes of the project.
